HIKE COMMENT

SCUBA

Did you know the world's largest mountain range is located in the ocean? Ha, and you thought hiking was cool. Over 70% of the earth's surface is covered in water and scuba diving is the only way to see beneath the surface.

SCUBA (self contained underwater beathing apparatus) has been around since Jaques Cousteau invented the aqua lung in 1943. Today there are over 700,000 divers world wide. Many divers dive for sport. Other take up the hobby because it is a great way to analyze ocean life and expand knowledge of worlds unseen. Still others travel to abyss for the thrill. Personally I do it for the excitement. Being under the water is a feeling like nothing else.

Although scuba is a popular hobby, not just anyone can squeeze into a wet suit and head into the depths. In order to dive, a person has to be certified. Not to worry, there are two major certification associations worldwide NAUI and PADI. Classes are relatively inexpensive and short. Divers are taught proper diving etique and safety techniques. With the proper education and training scuba is a very safe sport.
