Dublin In A Day

Ireland’s vibrant capital city of Dublin, one of the friendliest places in the world, tops the list of destinations for most people traveling to the Emerald Isle.  If you only have one day to spend in “The Fair City,”  the following recommendations of things to do & see should help you enjoy your visit to the fullest!

Lodging

If possible, book your stay in a centrally located hotel.  Ranging from $200 to $450 average per night, some places to consider lodging include The Mont Clare or The Davenport near the government building, The Morgan in the busy Temple Bar area, The Westin across from Trinity College, or The Merrion next to The Natural History Museum.  For more lodging info., call My Guide Ireland at 800-255-9302.

Attraction Guide

A good place to begin your tour around Dublin is Trinity College.  Built in 1592, it is Ireland’s first & most prestigious academic establishment, & home to one of the country’s most prominent artifacts - the Book of Kells.  Written around 800 AD, it is among the few oldest manuscripts in the world, containing Latin text of the four Gospels, with whole pages of painted illustrations.

Once you’ve had the chance to gaze at the pages of the medieval Book of Kells, you can marvel at the East Asian art collection at the Chester Beatty Library.  Then head over to Grafton Street to peruse the latest fashions & recharge your batteries at one of its many tea shops or cafes.

Hop on the Luas tram to the Guinness Storehouse brewery, Ireland’s number one tourist attraction, to discover all there is to know about Ireland’s most famous export.  Sip on a complementary pint in the Gravity Bar as you take in panoramic views of the city.  If you’re in Dublin around St. Patrick’s Day, Guinness Storehouse is THE place to be!  Their 3-day festival (3/15 - 3/17) includes a barrage of music, dance, food & lots of Irish fun!

Temple Bar Cultural Quarter

After whetting your appetite at Guinness Storehouse, visit Temple Bar Cultural Quarter, a must-see area full of shops, pubs, art galleries, live music & more.  It has a casual, almost bohemian-type, atmosphere where you can sit back & soak in traditional music while drinking a few more pints of beer, eating lunch or window shopping.  For a night on the town in style, dine at Chapter One restaurant, located in Parnell Square on the other side of Liffey River.  Then hit the dance floor at trendy Club M in the Blooms Hotel.  Tip:  Dress to impress, or you may not get in!
